Mutiple Coupons/Stockpiling

We Use Coupons, which has taught me a lot, recommends about 5 sets of coupons each week. Why so many? It is all about buying when the prices are the lowest. Typically, stores run around a 6-12 week sales cycle. Prices fluctuate weekly so the goal is to buy the item at the lowest price during the cycle. Then stock up enough that you don’t have to buy any until it is low again. To be the most efficient in doing this you need to have multiple coupons for that item. 

Example: 

I use 1 container of Tide each month. Meaning I need 3 to last me through a 12 week cycle. It goes on sale and I buy 3 Tides with 3 manufacture coupons and 3 store coupons! (see here about stacking coupons) I just saved a ton of money and I don’t have to worry about Tide for 3 months! 

Now if you can afford it, buy 4 instead of 3 then you have one extra. Eventually, build up to having a stockpile or supply of 6-12 months of different items! 

Great items to stockpile: toilet paper, detergents, shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, paper towels etc… You can also stockpile food!

Where Can I Get Coupons?

There are many resources to get coupons!

Sunday Paper-
You can subscribe which is what I currently do or you can stop by a store on Sunday and buy some. Decide which is the most cost-effective for your family. Some stores have Sunday papers on sale Monday morning, but you risk them being sold out! We Use Coupons suggests 5 newspapers each week.

Internet Coupons –
There are so many resources available to get coupons online. You can visit the manufactures website and print them or request them. “Like” the manufacture on Facebook and watch for coupons. Do the same for your favorite stores!

Visit the coupon insert sites Red Plum, Smart Source. and Proctor and Gamble.

You can also do a simple search for coupons online in your favorite search engine.

E-Coupons – See my recent post

In the Mail –
Join a coupon exchange or train. I have an exchange where we send coupons to each other in the mail. Contact me for more info. You can also join a coupon train on We Use Coupons.

When you sign up with the stores or manufactures they will send you coupons in the mail also!

Ebay or clipper service
On Ebay you can get the inserts or individual coupons you are looking for. Here is a clipper service.

Coupon Insert Wednesday!!!

Check out We Use Coupons! Their hard work allows us to know what coupons are coming next Sunday The great benefit of this is to be able to prepare today instead of waiting until Sunday to see what is coming. For instance do you need to buy Crest toothpaste? Why not wait (if you can!) until Sunday when you will have a $0.75 coupon. Then watch the store match ups I post to see if there are any good sales for Crest to match your coupon with for even greater savings!

E-Coupons

Electronic Coupons are coupons that you can load on to your shoppers card! There are several sites you can can do this with and it depends on your you store if they participate. It is really easy! You just visit the site, register your shopper card number(s) and add your coupons. Check back often for new coupons sometimes they will send you an email notice of new arrivals. Be sure to read the specifications for each coupon so you get the right item/amounts to redeem the coupon, if not, it simply will not register. Each coupon can be used once and usually will register even if you are using a paper coupon too!

Coupon Trends!

Did you know there are 367 billion coupons printed annually and according to recent reports those coupons average $1.44. That is a lot of potential savings for the average consumer. However, in 2009 there were only 3.3 billion coupons redeemed!

Another report said that 82.9 percent of people in the $25,000 – $50,000 income range used coupons, the highest usage of any income group. Why aren’t all income groups using coupons? We as consumers I losing $1000s of dollars each year by not using coupons. Is it not worth your time to keep money in your pockets? If I spend 2 hours preparing my coupons and shopping list and save $50 that trip I just paid myself $25 per hour! I go shopping 2 times a month and save $50 each trip that is an extra $1200 a year in savings. That would sure make a nice vacation! Add that up for the next 20 years and you have saved $24,000. That is a nice car. This is just the beginning, save even more if you are stockpiling and getting rock bottom deals!

All this being said, coupons are worth everyone’s time. Manufactures are giving you free money, take advantage of it. Why are you paying more than you have to? Why not save more?
